State scribe honoured with Kalyan Barooah Awards 2025

Imphal, December 11 2025: The 3rd Kalyan Barooah Awards 2025 were presented today at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, in a ceremony graced by Supreme Court Judge Justice Ujjal Bhuyan as the chief guest.

The event was jointly organised by the North East Media Forum (NEMF) and My Home India.

Justice Bhuyan presented the awards to journalists from across the North East, accompanied by Sanjib Kumar Baruah, president of NEMF, and Sunil Deodhar, president of My Home India.

Among the awardees, Manipur's Kshetimayum Premchand, chief reporter of SKTV News, received special attention as the winner of the Electronic Media Award, recognising his impactful reporting from his State.

Premchand is widely regarded as one of Manipur's most dedicated and consistent field reporters.

He earlier received the Manipur State Journalist Award (2021) by DIPR, Government of Manipur and has been honoured three times with the Climate Change Reporting Media Fellowship awarded by the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Manipur.

He has also been a recipient of the Media Fellowship from Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, recognising his contributions to agricultural and rural development reporting.

Premchand's achievements further include the IPS Journalist Award, the Editor's Guild Manipur Award for Best Reporting on "Know Your Candidate" during the 2019 election, and most recently, the Manipur University Media Award, which acknowledged his commitment to science, research, and developmentbased journalism.

Other Award Winners

A five-member jury of veteran media professionals evaluated nominations across categories for the 3rd Kalyan Barooah Awards 2025.The winners included: Lifetime Achievement Award- Monalisa Changkija (Nagaland Page); Print Category- Amal Goswami, Chief Staff Reporter, Dainik Janambhumi, Assam; and Digital Media Category-Mridul Kumar Handique, Pratidin Digital, Assam.

The event concluded with a call for deeper national engagement with the North East and encouragement for journalists to continue shedding light on issues that often remain underrepresented in mainstream discourse.
