Senapati DC reviews NH-2 road condition, directs urgent maintenance ahead of monsoon season

Senapati, June 11 2026: In view of the approaching monsoon season, the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati on Wednesday conducted a joint inspection of National Highway-02 to assess the condition of the road and review preparedness measures being undertaken by the concerned agencies.

The inspection was carried out along with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADM), Mao, the General Manager of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), officials of PMU-Senapati and other concerned officers.

During the inspection, several stretches of the highway requiring immediate attention were identified.

To ensure safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles during the monsoon, the Deputy Commissioner directed NHIDCL to undertake priority maintenance works through the STMC contractors, namely M/s NDS Construction and M/s Exotic Contractors Pvt Ltd.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the contractors to immediately clean and clear all choked drains along the highway to facilitate proper drainage and prevent waterlogging.

NHIDCL was also directed to expedite the installation of crash barriers and ensure that adequate safety barriers are provided at accident-prone' and vulnerable locations.

Further, the agency was asked to complete all pending maintenance and repair works before the onset of heavy rains and to accelerate the tendering process for the proposed strengthening and overlay work so that a contractor can be appointed at the earliest for timely execution of the project.

Emphasising the need for proactive measures, the Deputy Commissioner stated that ensuring road safety and minimising disruptions caused by heavy rainfall should remain a top priority.

NHIDCL was urged to strictly comply with the directions and carry out all necessary works within the stipulated timeframe.

The District Administration said it would continue to closely monitor the progress of the maintenance activities to ensure road safety, smooth traffic movement and public convenience throughout the monsoon season.
