Three killed, two wounded in fresh attack on non-locals

Imphal, June 11 2009: In the fresh attack on the life of non-locals by miscreants, at least three were shot dead inside the Central Agriculture University Campus tonight at around 8.30 pm leaving two with injuries.

All the killed non-locals were from Dhal Bazar, Parnaj district of west Bengal.

They were identified as Gouranga Mandal (27), Dilip (25) and Subha (26).Injured men were identified as Jagnath Mandal (30) and Polashchand (19).They also hailed from the same place.

Two non-local survivors recalling the incident to police

Polashchand escaped with bullet injury at the right side of the neck.

He even did not attend medical treatment.

But Jagnath who was pumped with one bullet at the head was stated to be under serious condition and treating at RIMS hospital.

The bullet was still remained stuck inside.

Polashchand who escaped with little injury recalled the incident and said one unknown person entered to the makeshift camp where altogether six non-locals are housing tonight and forced them to go with him at gun point.

It was when they were preparing meal for the night.

After taking out them outside the makeshift camp, with another gunman, they were carry upto CAU campus and without saying anything they were ordered to lie down on the ground and started shooting with the guns.

As the area was dark, gunmen left him thinking that he had died, he recounted the ordeal adding that another one run away when started shooting at them without receiving at any casualty.

Another local who work together with the victims of gunmen said five local men along with six non-local men are engaging in the construction of jimkhana inside the CAU campus.

The non-locals were alread in the makeshift camp before they came for the work.

A work for the contractor named Munindro from Khongman Irom taking contract of construction of the jimkhana of the CAU.

Before the shooting took place, they were warned not to come out outside the makeshift structure and not to informed the police and took out the non-locals.

As only five of the nine non-locals housing in the camp, the number of victims have been reduced.

If not more men would have been the victims of the gunmen, he said stating that some of them were outside the housing place when the gunmen entered.

He could not say whether the assailants came on foot or on vehicle and on which direction they escaped after performing the act could also not be known.

As there was security guard at the main gate, he could not believed that escaping the non-locals on the main entrance side.

On getting the information, police rushed to the spot and conducted search operation to find the assailants in the surrounding of the CUA campus.

They also interrogated some local residents.

But till the time filing this report, there was no report of rounding up any suspect of the incident.
