International Women's Day celebrated, health screening drive for IDPs held

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Manipur Regional Office, celebrated International Women's Day at Hotel Imolesh, Imphal today.
The event held under the theme, "March Forward: From Promises to Progress", focussed on the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women across various sectors in Manipur.
It was graced by dignitaries, including Partha Mandal, General Manager, NABARD; N Bandana Devi, State Mission Director, MSRLM; Valentina Arambam, Director, Education (U); Bidyarani Ayekpam, MD, MSCB; Dr Ch Basudha Devi, Principal Scientist, Fisheries, ICAR; Dr Rameshwari, Assistant Professor, Zoology Department, Manipur University; Abhay Kumar, Chairman, Manipur Rural Bank and Bendang Aier, Deputy General Manager.
Delivering the welcome address, Partha Mandal acknowledged Manipur's long history of women-led movements, from the historic Nupi Lal to the Meira Paibis' fight for justice.
He asserted that Manipuri women continue to excel in sports, entrepreneurship, and grassroots activism, demonstrating that empowerment is deeply rooted in the State's traditions.
He also elucidated NABARD's role in promoting financial inclusion and economic independence through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), which have grown into the world's largest microfinance movement.
He pointed out various initiatives supporting women in agriculture, handicrafts, weaving, and food processing.
He also spoke about skill development programs in weaving, organic farming, mushroom cultivation, and poultry farming, which contribute to strengthening Manipur's rural economy.
N Bandana Devi lauded the resilience of Manipuri women, stating that despite the challenges facing the State since May 3, 2023, SHGs and local women are spearheading in ensuring support to those in relief camps and vulnerable communities.
She shared that during a recent meeting with MoRD officials in Delhi, they acknowledged Manipur's achievements despite the crisis.
Appreciating NABARD, MSCB, RBI, and other stakeholders for their contributions, she noted that more than two lakh women are part of SHGs under MSRLM, NABARD, etc and their empowerment benefits entire families.
Dr Ch Basudha Devi spoke about ICAR's contributions to fisheries research in Manipur, including the development of short-duration aquaculture technology, which has helped farmers in the valley.
She claimed that this technology has led to success in crop competitions held by the Fishery Department for many years.
Dr Rameshwari spoke about the importance of leadership, decision-making, education, and closing the gender gap in technology and sustainability.
An exhibition showcasing local products crafted by entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and farmers' association's was held as part of the event.
Several successful entrepreneurs and bank branch managers were also honored on the occasion.
Some entrepreneurs and notable individuals shared their experiences and success stories.
The celebration concluded with a cultural performance by the Eastern Arts & Culture Foundation, Manipur.
HEALTH SCREENING
To commemorate International Women's Day, the Indian Army in coordination with Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Imphal East, conducted a Women's Health Screening Drive at Lamlai Relief Camp on Friday.
The initiative aimed to provide essential healthcare services, medical consultations, and free medicines to displaced persons residing in the relief camp.
The medical camp was set up as part of the Army's ongoing efforts to support and assist the local population, particularly those affected by recent disturbances in the region.
A team of Army doctors and civil medical professionals from the CMO Imphal East worked tirelessly to ensure that every individual received necessary medical attention and treatment.
During the camp, over 450 people including women, children, and elderly citizens, benefited from general health check-ups and specialized consultations.
The team addressed various medical issues, including respiratory infections, skin diseases, gastrointestinal ailments, malnutrition, and chronic illnesses.
Special attention was given to maternal and child healthcare, ensuring that vulnerable individuals received appropriate medical care and nutritional guidance.
Additionally, the medical team conducted awareness sessions on preventive healthcare, hygiene, and sanitation to educate the residents on maintaining good health under challenging circumstances.
Essential medicines, nutritional supplements, and hygiene kits were also distributed to the attendees.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army and local health authorities for their compassionate efforts in providing much-needed medical relief.
The camp not only addressed immediate healthcare needs but also reinforced the strong bond between the Army and the local community.
