Imphal, February 07, 2011: A plea for allowing tape recording of the voice of UNLF chairman, RK Meghen aka Sanayaima brought up during a hearing in the NIA Special Court, Guwahati was rejected after hearing arguments of both the counsel of Meghen and the NIA.

Seven cadres of the UNLF including the chairman were produced in the NIA Special Court today.

During the hearing NIA counsel requested the Judge to allow recording of Meghen's statement given in court .

Meghen's counsel strongly objected the request observing that the request is a part of a hidden agenda of NIA officials to modify statements of Meghen made in the court to duplicate statements given by the UNLF Chairman during interrogation.

Meghen's counsel also argued that the NIA may also use modified statements as evidence of the charges leveled against the UNLF Chairman.

The same court also rejected another prayer for re-interrogation of M Ibohal, another UNLF leader arrested from Guwahati.

At the concluding part of the hearing of the seven UNLF leaders, the court directed to produce all of them on February 21. RK Meghen was produced in the court for the fifth time since his "arrest" from Bihar's Motihari district.

Meanwhile, after the court hearing, Meghen, talking to reporters, has commented that the proposed ULFA (United Liberation of Asom) and Government of India's unconditional talks will give an impact in the revolutionary movement in Manipur as well as in the entire NE region.

At the same time, he reminded that there are qualitative differences between the negotiation process the ULFA is going to be part of and that of the UNLF's revolutionary struggle.

Meghen reminded that there are disagreements among the leaders of ULFA with regard to the initiation of peace talks.

The outfit's Commander-in-Chief and some of his supporters still stick to the stand of conditional talks with sovereignty and independence on the agenda.

On the other hand, the UNLF stands to end the conflict in Manipur through a democratic process.

The UNLF is with the people in raising the demand to end the conflict, Meghen said, pointing out the qualitative difference of ideology of ULFA and UNLF.

Citing the examples of how the Sudan and East Timor attaining independence with the support of their peoples, Meghen said if the people of Manipur persists, there is no reason why our struggle will fail.

He said, there is the need of building up unity amongst the peoples of Manipur.

Of the 25 lakh population, if two lakh unite and struggle to achieve the goal, the GoI will not be able to face the people's force, he said, informing that now the people of Manipur have started raising the voice of plebiscite to end the conflict.

Taking advantage of the interaction with the media, Meghen greeted his colleagues and the MPA on the 24th raising day of the UNLF's army wing MPA (Manipur People's Army) which falls on the 9th of this month.

Encouraging the MPA, he made an appeal to strive hard and march ahead in the struggle for freedom.

He also saluted the MPA cadres who died in the struggle for sovereignty.
