Mass Foot rally in Chandel calls for conservation of wildlife

Chandel, November 06 2025: A massive footrally advocating for the protection and conservation of wildlife was held today at Japhou Bazar, Chandel.

The event was jointly organised by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Chandel, and Oak Hill Christian Academy, Panchai, Chandel.

Over 600 students from Oak Hill Christian Academy enthusiastically took part in the rally, which was flagged off from the school campus by DFO Chandel, Dr N Munal Meitei, and the school's founder and principal, HT Francis.

The students, carrying placards and chanting slogans promoting wildlife and environmental protection, march through Japhou Bazar covering a distance of about 1.5 km before concluding at the Women Market.

The event culminated in a deliberate session attended by students, along with BS Khilhuwhring Anal and Khinda Huten.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr N Munal Meitei stressed that protecting wildlife is the collective responsibility of youths and students.

He lamented that despite years of campaigns and observances held under the banner of wildlife conservation, the impact has remained minimal, with several species still on the brink of extinction.

He further pointed out that one major reason for the limited success of past conservation efforts is the lack of involvement of young people and students.

He lauded Oak Christian Academy, expressing optimism that their involvement would inspire greater success in protecting wildlife and the environment - not only in Chandel but across the State.

Dr Munal further urged other schools in Chandel to emulate Oak Hill Christian Academy's example and join the movement for wildlife conservation.
