Importance of safeguarding wildlife stressed

The 72nd Wildlife Week 2026 was observed across the State to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and conserving flora and fauna thereby safeguarding their natural habitats.
Bishnupur
In line with the 72nd Wildlife Week observation, a cycle rally promoting the message of protecting the wildlife was organised by the Sangai Conservation and Wildlife Trust.
The cycle rally was flagged off by Thang AC MLA Tongbram Robindro from Kumbi Keithel.
Speaking at the event, Robindro asserted that collective efforts must be made to protect and preserve the rich wildlife and State animal Sangai.
He emphasized that Government initiatives are not enough to protect wildlife, noting that efforts of the community play an equally vital role in conserving wildlife.
The flagging off ceremony was also attended by Kumbi AC MLA Sanasam Premchandra, Deputy Conservator of Forest Park & Sanctuary Division Laishram Birmangol Singh and Sangai Conservation and Wildlife Trust Managing Trustee Salam BK Singh and other renowned personalities of the region.
The cycle rally which started from Kumbi Keithel culminated at Sangai Ethnic Park Moirangkhunou.
Placards which read 'Let's conserve our environment for a sustainable future', 'Stop killing wild animals', 'We Honour Wildlife Protection Act 1972', 'Save wildlife', 'Save Loktak', 'Save Sangai' etc were used in the rally.
Meanwhile, The Keibul Lamjao National Park Forest Department, The Environment Social Reformation and Sangai Protection Forum and Wildlife Institute of India Dheradun jointly organised a cycle rally and an awareness programme on the theme of 72nd Wildlife Week 2026, 'Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife' .
The rally was flagged off from Moirang Lamkhai by Deputy Conservator of Forest Park & Sanctuary Laishram Biramangol.
Later, an awareness programme was held at Ema
Phouoibi Community Hall Keibul Makha Leikai.
Chandel
As part of the ongoing Wildlife Week celebrations, the Chandel Forest Division organised an educational tour for school students to promote awareness and understanding of wildlife and its conservation by visiting Keibul Lamjao National Park, Loktak Lake and the Manipur Zoological Garden.
The tour was attended by 50 students selected from 10 different schools of the district.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Chandel Dr N Munal Meitei flagged off the tour from Japhou Bazar.
Kamjong
The 72nd Wildlife Week 2026 was observed today at Lungtoram village in Kamjong district under the theme "Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife".
The programme was organised by environmental activist Jojo Robertson.
Village Headmen, youth and women leaders representing 18 villages, along with local community members attended the event.
Addressing the gathering Jojo Robertson urged the village leaders and communities to create and protect wildlife pathways and wildlife corridors so that wild animals can move safely between habitats in search of food, water and suitable also maintaining their natural migration routes.
Meanwhile, the 72nd Wildlife Week 2026 was celebrated at Kasom Khullen High School on Monday organised by Jojo Robertson in collaboration with the Kamjong Forest Division, Govt of Manipur.
