Kakching, October 06 2024:
Youth Development and Sporting Organisation and Chairel meira paibees have urged the local MLA and concerned department to resolve the land dispute surrounding Chairel Khunjao Water Supply Scheme so that water supply to the public can resume.
Speaking to the media, Laishram Nanao, secretary, YDSO, shared that the sole water supply scheme of Chairel Khunjao was built by MLA K Ranjit in 2008-2009 and inaugurated in 2010 .
After supplying water to the public for a few years, it became embroiled in a land dispute and tap water supply to the residents halted as a result.
Recently, the water supply scheme was in the process of being renovated under Jal Jeevan Mission when the previous land dispute was reignited and the renovation work stopped as well.
Upon looking into the matter, the locals discovered various inconsistencies regarding ownership of the site where the water supply scheme was built.
The YDSO secretary claimed that the landowner of the site had reportedly sold the land to different individuals even though it was supposedly donated for the scheme.
As a result of such prevailing disputes, the people of Chairel Khunjao have been deprived of tap water supply for ten years.
Thus, Nanao has called for swift resolution of the issue.
