Poshan Abhiyan launched at districts across State

Kpi/Tbl, September 04 2018: As part of the Statewide launching of National Nutrition Mission, Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi District launch Poshan Abhiyan which aims to eradicate malnutrition and boost nutrition among women andchildren in thecountry today at Bongmol village in Kangpokpi District.

The launching of Poshan Abhiyan in the Go to Village program at Bongmol village in Champhai sub-division of Kangpokpi District was attended by Addl DC Kangpokpi, Joel G Haokip, MCS, SDO Champhai, Chunglenmang Kipgen, MCS, CEO-SHADC Kpi, T Manihar Singh, MCS, officials of Social Welfare Department, CDPO, CMO, PHED, CAF & PD, etc.

Speaking at the event, she said that 'Poshan' stands for Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition and it aims to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children while it targets to reduce level of un-der-nutrition and other related problems by ensuring convergence of various nutrition related schemes.

The Poshan Abhiyan which is also coined as Mission 25 by 2022 targets to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anemia (among young children, women and adolescent girls) and reduce low birth weight by 2%, 2%, 3% and 2%per annum respectively.

Although the target to reduce stunting is at least 2% p.a., Mission would strive to achieve reduction stunting from 38.4% (NFHS-4) to 25% by 2022 .

Enumerating on the mission, Dr Rangitabali Waikhom said that the National Nutrition Mission is a comprehensive approach towards raising nutrition level in the country on a war footing with a goals to achieve improvement in nutritional status of children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers in a time bound manner during the next three years beginning 2017-18.She also said that the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 30, 2017 had approved setting up of National Nutrition Mission (NNM) with a three year budget of Rs 9,046.17 crore commencing from 2017-18 while it was officially launched by Prime Minister at Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan in March, 2018 .

District Admn Kangpokpi will soon release an Action Plan, a "game changer" for fast track implementation of the Abhiyan in the district.

Meanwhile, in a similar launching programme, ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing also launched the National Nutrition Mission at Conference Hall, Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi after the launching programme at Bongmol village.

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Poshan Maah, National Nutrition Month was formally launched by DC Thoubal Haobam Rosita today at the conference hall of DC office, Thoubal.

The one month celebration will be marked by different programmes to be held at different venues.

Different departments like ICDS, CMO, PHED, CAF&PD, ZEO and FSO will hold awareness programmes, health check ups and various other programmes like quiz, essay competition etc.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the DC said that during the month long observance of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, all out efforts will be made to ensure good health & hygiene for the pregnant women and lactating mothers for a healthy and prosperous society.

The function was attended by ADM Thoubal, DLOs and staffs of DC Thoubal.

The National Nutrition Mission was launched in other districts also at Go To Village Mission camps.
