Van Mahotsav celebrated widely

As observed across the country, Manipur PoliceTraining College (MPTC), Pangei in collaboration with the Manipur Forest Department celebrated Van Mohotsav 2024 today on the theme, "A Great Forest-Festival" .
Van Mahotsav, also known as the "Festival of Trees", is an annual week-long tree-planting festival celebrated in the country during the first week of July.
The festival was started in 1950 by the Ministry of Agriculture to create awareness about the importance of trees and forests in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring environmental stability.
The function was graced by RK Amarjit Singh, Special Secretary (Forest) & Conservator of Forest (Central Circle) as the chief guest, said a release.
Kabib K, Inspector General of Police, Director, MPTC, Pangei; S Gautam Singh, Assistant Director, MPTC; P Manjit Singh, Assistant Director, MPTC; Md Abul Kalam, Assistant Director, MPTC; staff of Forest Department; officers, law instructors, JCOs and personnel of MPTC and CAPF (BSF & CRPF) also attended the function.
Altogether, 100 officers and personnel attended the function wherein different views and opinions were expressed and shared.
As a part of the celebration, about 300 tree saplings were planted inside the campus of MPTC, Pangei.
Moreover, as part of the week-long celebration of Van Mahotsav, the Social Forestry Division in collaboration with the Village Authority, Youth Club, Women Society Silent Village have launched the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: Plant for Mother" campaign.

At the event, Sw Suisa reiterated that plantation of trees is the most effective tool to combat extreme climate change and prevent natural disasters of flood and drought in the watershed of rivers, streams and water sources in the State.
