Radio Nongin celebrates 5th foundation day with focus on community service

Radio Nongin 90.8 MHz FM celebrated its 5th Foundation Day today with a grand function held at Gandhi Memorial Hall.
The event highlighted the community radio service's crucial role in reaching remote, voiceless areas and providing vital information on health and education.
The function was graced by dignitaries, including Surjakumar Okram, MLA of Khangabok AC; Dr Thangjam Dhabali Singh, chairman and managing director, BABINA Group of Companies; Dr Sanasam Subhamenon Singh, Professor, Manipur University and advisor, Radio Nongin; Mangsatabam Harekrishna, retired IAS officer; Dr Raheijuddin Sheikkh, Principal, Moirang College, Moirang and advisor, Radio Nongin; and Yendrembam Ibungochouba Singh, founding director, Radio Nongin.
In his address, Surjakumar Okram praised community radio services like Radio Nongin for acting as a bridge between remote communities and Government departments.
He emphasized the significant benefits of radio listening, particularly in health education and disseminating information about the New Education Policy (NEP) to parents and the public.
Y Ibungochouba revealed that Radio Nongin officially began operating on March 14, 2020, amidst the severe COVID-19 pandemic and was inaugurated on April 4, 2021, when the lockdown eased.
Radio Nongin, now five years old, has earned public praise for its lockdown efforts, providing vital COVID-19 awareness alongside entertainment.
Ibungouchouba said the station continues to broadcast impactful programmes, catering to all ages, from kids to seniors, promoting awareness and community engagement.
Staff members were also honored with gifts of appreciation during the ceremony.
