AR launches rescue mission

Assam Rifles has launched Operation JalRaahat-II to combat rising water levels and prevent flooding in residential areas of Imphal West and Imphal East, said IGAR (South) in a statement.
It also said that a flood control room has been activated with a helpline number of 7075578116 to help the people.
Reports of severe water logging and rivers reaching high flood level have been received from Imphal West, Imphal East, and Thoubal, the IGAR (S) added.
Saying that two Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) columns were deployed in New Checkon and Mahabali Temple yesterday on requisition from civil administration, it added that Assam Rifles rescued 550 civilians during the exercise.
One of these columns moved to Irilbung and fortified the banks of the Iril River, it said.
It further maintained that additional HADR columns have also been deployed at Singjamei, Nambol and Keithelmanbi for rescue operations.
