Thoubal, April 03 2026:
The Kshetrileikai Apunba Meira Paibi and Kshetri Leikai Semgat Sagat Lup have expressed strong resentment over the arrest of Ningthoujam Hemanta Singh (28) of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai by security forces on March 12 from Thoubal Wangmataba on charges of being associated withKCP (Taibanganba).
In a joint statement, the two organisations asserted that Hemanta is an innocent person who earns his livelihood through daily wage work and strongly condemned the allegations levelled against him.
They stated that Hemanta has been actively involved in local community activities and has contributed significantly to efforts against drug abuse in the locality.
He is also known for his participation in developmental initiatives carried out by local clubs, they added.
The organisations further highlighted that during the violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, Hemanta had actively assisted the Meira Paibis by extending aid and support to affected people, travelling along with women volunteers to various places.
Maintaining that he has no links with any unlawful organisation, the bodies said such allegations against him are unacceptable to the people of the locality.
They also appealed to KCP (Taibanganba) to issue a clarification statement so as to remove confusion among the public regarding the matter.
