Construction of the three multi-storey market-sheds of Khwairamband Keithel will be completed within this month, said Chief Minister, O Ibobi today after he inspected the work progress in the sites.
He said that construction of the High Court building at Chingmeirong, a component of the Imphal Capitol Project is targeted to be completed by January next year while other components are slated to be completed by February.
The city convention centre too will be ready by May next year.
Chief Minister accompanied by works minister, K Ranjit, some MLAs and government officials inspected work progress of various projects including the three market-sheds, Imphal Capitol Project, the city convention centre at Palace Compound, and tribal market at Chekon.
The inspection began at 10 am and ended at 1.45 pm.
After inspecting the sites, Chief Minister said that the construction works of the three market-sheds will be completed within this current month of October.
The construction of one of shed, Luxmi Market, is already complete but the construction work in the other two sheds was delayed when the agency (NBCC) abandoned the work.
The work was later handled by the state PWD after convincing the funding ministry, Union Urban Development Ministry, the ground reality behind the NBCC abandoning the work.
An Engineer of the PWD who accompanied the CM in the inspection recalled that the construction of the two market-sheds were re-started from 2007 after works minister K Ranjit re-laid the foundation stone on October 25 .
Currently, work of making drainages surrounding the market-sheds is in progress.
Under the strong instruction of CM, Works minister is looking after the work personally.
Government is planning to inaugurate the three market-sheds simultaneously on the same day, he disclosed.
Government is also planning to invite UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi in the inaugural function scheduled sometime next month, he added.
