Chairman of the Loktak Development Authority (LDA), M Asnikumar Singh, has conducted an on-site assessment of Merakhong Maril, a stream originating from the upper reaches of the Ngairangbam side of the Koubru Hill range.
This significant waterway meanders through the Lamshang, Konthoujam, and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa constituencies before flowing through the Nambol constituency and entering Loktak Lake at Ishok.
Recognizing the stream's importance and its critical role in draining excess water from upstream areas, the Chairman emphasized the need for cleaning, widening, and desilting the stream to prevent potential flooding and improve water management.
He also highlighted that the recent flash floods in the Naoriya Pakhanglakpa and Nambol areas were due to insufficient drainage through the Merakhong Maril.

The discussions focused on community efforts to maintain the stream and the support needed to sustain these activities.
M Asnikumar praised the village volunteers' efforts in cleaning the stream, recognizing their dedication, and hard work and expressed gratitude to the local MLA & Minister Th Basanta Singh, for his significant contributions and support in these cleaning initiatives.
He assured the community of LDA's continued support and commitment to maintaining the stream's health.
The Chairman further expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N Biren Singh for the thorough and active supervision at every step of the whole process.
