AR pays tribute to bravehearts

Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony at Sehlon, Chandel district in honour of Jemadar Lal Bahadur Vis wakarma, Rfh Jit Bahadur Thapa, Rfn Sarbadhan Sunar and Rfh T K C Varkey who made the ultimate sacrifice displaying unwavering courage and dedication to duty despite facing overwhelming odds in intense Counter Insurgency Operation in Aizawl, Mizoram on March 2, 1966 .
According to a release issued by the IGAR (South), on the night of February 28, 1966, MNF rebels launched coordinated attacks on various strategic locations in Mizoram, including the district treasury at Aizawl and camps of Police.
Subsequently, the rebels targeted the Assam Rifles Battalion Headquarter at Aizawl, aiming to disrupt the peace and stability of the region.
A patrol party under Jem Lal Bahadur Vishwakarma was ambushed by MNF insurgents near a school wherein the patrol party faced heavy fire and suffered fatal casualties including Jem Lal Bahadur Viswakarma, Rfh Jit Bahadur Thapa, Rfh Sarbadhan Sunar and Rfn T K C Varkey.
The ceremony commenced with wreath laying senior Assam Rifles officials who narrated the tale of the bravehearts to infuse pride and honour in the force.
Over 120 Assam Rifles personnel paid tribute by laying wreaths and honouring the martyrs, said the IGAR (South) .
