Young JNIMS docs take oath

White coat & oath taking ceremony of 2024 MBBS & BDS (Medical & Dental) students of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat was held today at the auditorium of the institute today in presence of Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan encouraged the young doctors, and said that the medical profession is a challenging profession which also provides the opportunity to meet and interact with people from all walks of life.
He appealed to the students from other States to know and learn about Manipur apart from learning medical knowledge.
The Minister said the white coat ceremony gives a sense of responsibility that no other profession gives.
It is not just a piece of white cloth, he said, adding that it comes with a responsibility to save precious lives.
He advised the doctors to be compassionate, committed and professional, and abide by the ethics of the profession while rendering service to the people.
Dr Sapam Ranjan also appealed to all the staff and stakeholders of the institute to work in unison for the welfare of the institute and for the general public.
Any problem that arises in the institute should be timely tabled and discussed with the authorities concerned to bring an amicable solution, he said.
He also stressed on various programmes that are being taken up by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to improve healthcare system.
Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS administered the oath to the medical students.
It may be mentioned that the white coat ceremony was created in 1993 by the Arnold P Gold Foundation to emphasize that professionalism and patient care begin when a student puts on their white coat.
The white coat ceremony and oath taking are rites of passage for medical students that mark their transition into the medical community and their clinical phase of medical school.
Professor L Usharani Devi, Director, JNIMS; Professor Kh Lokeshwar Singh, Medical Superintendent; Professor Nidarsh D Hedge, Principal, Dental College and Professor Supriya L, Dean Academics, faculty members, staff, medical students, parents and guardians attended the ceremony.
