New installations for Science Centre soon

Imphal, May 31 2014 : In an effort to attract more visitors, a mirror magic gallery will be opened at Manipur Science Centre (MSC), Takyelpat within three weeks.

Talking to The Sangai Express, MSC Curator TD Kom said that the Centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi on May 18, 2005 .

The Centre has many baffling equipment and materials which not only educate the visitors but also entertain them, TD Kom added.

Saying that the mirror magic gallery is an interesting addition to the existing Science materials, the Curator said that there would a section called Mirror Maze where the visitors would witness confusing reflections of themselves on mirrors that they would not able to locate the exit channel.

A staff of the Centre would always accompany the visitors when they enter into Mirror Maze, he added.

Informing about other sections, TD Kom said that Ghosh Walk is a section where one would see himself/herself walking upside down on mirror while 'Dine with yourself' would give a reflection of sitting in a crowd.

Floating Image is another amazing section wherein one would see himself flying or floating while Infinity Tunnel would give a reflection as if one is looking down to an endless tunnel, TD Kom said.

Saying that the Centre is also planning to install a studio, TD Kom said that visitors would see their heads flying in the cloud on a TV screen in the studio.

Moreover, the Centre is also planning to open a new section called Innovative Hub, TD Kom said and added that visitors would be asked to assemble a robot by providing them materials and scientific ideas.

He added that Centre would need an area of around 300 sq metre for Innovative Hub.

Regarding Mirror Magic Gallery, TD Kom said that equipment and mirror worth around Rs 23 lakh have been installed in a building measuring around 40 sq ft.

He said that construction of the building was started in 2009 at an estimated cost of Rs 42 lakh.

As the gallery is now ready for opening, it would be inaugurated within three weeks, TD Kom said.

Regarding Innovative Hub, TD Kom said that a detailed project report has been submitted to National Council of Science Museum Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The Ministry is likely to sanction Rs1.8 crore for installation of Innovative Hub, he added.

Saying that the Government is also planning to open a Science Centre each in all the districts of the State, TD Kom said that land survey works for the said purpose is in full swing for Ukhrul, Churachandpur and Senapati districts.
