NPP, BJP strengthen base ahead of polls

Imphal, September 29 2026: With Assembly elections drawing near, political activities have intensified across constituencies with NPP and BJP welcoming new supporters.

Uripok AC

Intending NPP candidate Aribam Amarjit Sharma on Tuesday said people are looking for a representative who can feel their suffering.

Speaking at a reception for new entrants at Ema Laikhurembi Shanglen, Uripok, he said, "Only the poor can understand the pain of the poor.

We are working among the people by pooling money from amongst ourselves".

Criticising party-centric voting without assessing the candidate, he said people want a good person rather than just a party symbol, and a true public representative must sacrifice for the people and the land.

NPP national general secretary (political) Mmhonlumo Kikon said service to the people is the core ideology of NPP and the party stands firm for Manipur's territorial integrity and restoration of peace.

Noting that Uripok was given due importance in 2017 and even produced a Deputy Chief Minister, he said the party will give greater responsibility to the AC in the coming term.

Mayang Imphal AC

As many as 51 families from Hangoon, Thongam and Phoubakchao areas under Polling Stations 23/33, 23/35 and 23/36, joined BJP at a booth-level political conference held at Sekmaijin Bazar Community Hall on Sunday.

Welcoming the new members, Mayang Imphal AC MLA Kongkham Robindro Singh assured to take up development works desired by the locals and work as a representative who understands the pulse of the people.

Past and future development plans were discussed at the meeting attended by BJP Imphal West District president Ph Phoni Meitei, Mandal president Irom Rabi Singh and others.

Sagolband AC

Over 30 families from different parts of Sagolband joined BJP at the residence of MLA RK Imo Singh on Sunday, reposing faith in his 14 years of service.

Addressing the gathering, Imo Singh said public service should not be confined to election season and a representative must stay connected throughout the five-year term.

Listing out works taken up in the last 12-13 years, he cited laying of water pipeline networks, road improvement, solar lighting for community halls, clubs and roads, streamlining PDS distribution and opening of UPHC Sagolband.

He also highlighted his 'Go To Leikai' initiative launched after the 2022 polls which has covered 12 leikais across four wards to deliver welfare schemes at doorsteps.
