Imphal, August 29 2010: Jadonnang was just 26 years old when he was hanged by the Britishers in Manipur on August 29, 1931 .

Fought the British Raj with fiery, Jadonnang hailed from the Zeliangrong community of Tamenglong district.

Commemorating his 79th Death Anniversary today in Manipur at various places by the people of Manipur both in the hills and in the valley, the sacrifice of Jadonnang was dwelt at length in all these programmes.

The main programme organised by Haipou Jadonnang Statue and Park Development Committee, Manipur (HJSPDCM) was held at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal where a blood donation camp was also carried out.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest of the programme, Youth Affairs and Sports minister N.Biren said that it is just the handful of elements who are creating situation to the test and trial and it should not be accounted as created by the Nagas, the Kukis, the Meiteis or any other community.

Emphasising on the need to retrospect the deeds of Jadonnang by the people of the state so that the value of co-existence of all the communities of Manipur will be promoted.

N.Biren who is also the minister of IFCD said that the the policy of Haipou Jadonnang was to identify the real enemies of the society so that dealing accordingly with things by the society would boost the force of unity among the people.

Meanwhile, PDA chairman and MLA Dr Loken disclosed that a life-size statue will be erected soon at the Haipou Jadonnang Memorial Park in Imphal.

The 79th death anniversary of Haipou Jaduannang was richly observed at two places in Tamenglong district.

In Tamenglong District HQs the Zeliangrong Union under Committee of Haipou Jaduannang & Rani Gaidinliu Death Anniversary, HJRGDAC organized a function at Zeliangrong House Apollo Bazaar while another observance was organized in Nungba Sub- Division HQs by Zeliangrong Interim Body, ZIB and Zeliangrong Student Union Manipur.

In both programmes the Zeliangrong people paid rich tributes to the brave Naga freedom fighter who resisted the harsh policies of the British Wreaths and floral offering were laid at the memorial stone and a two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect.

In the district HQs C Arthur W, IAS, SDO- Tamenglong, DM Nganthuanang, Ex- President ZU (AMN) and Guitiang Pamei, Lecturer, Tamenglong Higher Secondary School graced the function as chief guest, president and resource person respectively.

In the programme the resource person said that the Naga Raja, Haipou Jaduannang was the youngest son of Thiudai and Tabonliu of Puiluan (Kambiron) village under Nungba police station.

He worked to introduce social, religious and political reforms.

He tried to integrate Zeme, Rongmei and Liangmei under one identity.

He also demanded a separate administration for them.

He was the first person to oppose paying of taxes to the British government and the inhuman British policy to make the villagers work as forced labourers.

As the popularity of the Naga Raja began to grow the British government in order to snub him killed the most popular man of Puiluan, Jaduannang's village.

The Zeliangrong people are disunited over the nomenclature to be used to describe themselves.

This is against the philosophy and aspirations of Haipou Jaduannang, observed the speaker.

He appealed to all to follow the path of Haipou Jaduannang to build a good and strong community of the Nagas as a whole.

The chief guest also appealed to the Zeliangrong people and the Nagas as a whole to embrace the spirit and ideals of Haipou Jaduannang to bring peace, harmony and prosperity to the society.

In the Nungba programme an attractive parade was displayed by the Puiluan (Kambiron) Youth Club.

This was followed by the chief guest's speech.

.DAssistant Professor, Department of History, MU on 'Historical perception on ideology of Zeliangrong Integration of Haipou Jaduannang,' Dr Gaikhamsin Riamei, MA Ph D.Guest Lecturer, Centre for Human Rights, Duties and Education, MU and Dr Benjamin Gangmei, MA Ph D, B.D.Sr Lecturer, United College Chandel on 'Applicative perception on ideology of Zeliangrong Integration of Haipou Jaduannang.' Singing of patriotic songs entertained the gathering.
