CM's wife advocates 'play and learn' method, urges end to heavy school bags

Imphal, March 29 2026: Yumnam Joybala, wife of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, today spoke out against the practice of burdening young students with heavy school bags, advocating instead for the adoption of "play and learn" teaching methods.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Annual Day celebration of the Shemrock Kids Garden, Ayangpalli Road, Porompat, held at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Joybala emphasized that teaching is a noble profession with a significant responsibility in shaping future generations.

"Teachers have a great role in building a good society", she stated, adding that every child's thinking capacity, intellect, and dignity are unique and should be understood by educators.

She urged teachers to use simple, age-appropriate methods to make learning enjoyable, without the need for heavy loads.

Joybala also highlighted the importance of fostering a good future generation through engaging educational practices.

Chingshubam Ashok Meitei, chairman of Shamrock Kids Garden, highlighted the school's mission to nurture the potential of young children and guide them towards becoming capable individuals.

He emphasized the importance of identifying students' talents beyond academics and employing easy teaching methods to foster holistic development.

The event saw the presence of prominent figures including Thangjam Arun Kumar, MLA of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency; Lourembam Rameshwor Meitei, MLA of Keirao Assembly Constituency; former Minister Moirangthem Okendro; Vidyalakshmi, Director of Shamrock Kids Garden; arid Khumanthem Diana, Director of Transport, Manipur.

The celebration concluded with the awarding of gold, silver, and bronze medals to the school's class toppers.

The Best Performer of the Year and Best Class of the Year awards were also distributed during the function.
