Imphal, July 28 2016:
Member of National Women Commission Rekha Sharma wound up her three-day visit to Manipur today.
During her visit, she met some NGOs leaders, Anganwadi workers and women vendors of Ima market.
While addressing the media today at Hotel Imphal she mentioned about the lack of infrastructure in Manipur State Commission for Women, irregularity of pay to the Anganwadi workers and helpers.
She also met the CM and apprised the problems faced by the Commission.
She requested all concerned to avail the facility provided by the Commission.
Getting only 40-50 complaints in a year won't serve the purpose.
She commented, 'No doubt Manipuri women are empowered, but they should also be economically empowered, women should join politics and become strong policy makers' .
Lauding the decision of Sharmila who announced to break her fast and join politics, she said, 'women need to join politics and become good and efficient policy makers' .
She also stressed on the need to sensitize police in dealing with sensitive issues with women.
There should be more counsellors, more awareness programmes on sexual abuse, marital abuse, domestic issues should be discussed freely so that the Commission would be able to help those who are affected by it.
Until and unless women voice, the Commission won't be able to work properly.
