20-day narrative arts workshop on Mahabharata's Udyog Parba begins at Yairipok

A 20-day narrative arts workshop-cum-production on the Udyog Parba of the Mahabharata commenced on Thursday at RCCH Hall, Yairipok Bamol Leikai.
The workshop is being organised by the Regional Centre for Cultural Heritage (RCCH), Yairipok, with financial assistance from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The inaugural function was attended by president of Repertory Waree Leeba of Manipur, Khomdram Surendro Singh, as chief guest; president of RCCH, Yairipok and State awardee, Laikhuram Mani Singh, as functional president; and Joint Director of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Ashangbam Sahadev Singh, as guest of honour.
As part of the 20-day programme, Waree Leeba artistes and teachers from various parts of Manipur, including Bishnunaha, Charangpat, Poiroukhongjin, Tentha, Uyumpok, Thoubal and Yairipok Bamol Leikai, will perform and recite traditional storytelling narrations based on the Udyog Parba for the audience.
The workshop also features interactive sessions and lectures by several eminent scholars and cultural experts.
Among the resource persons are president of Thambalnu Sahitya Marup and Library, Rajendra Mutum; National Awardee Raghubir Thiyam; Professor Dr S Madhumangol Sharma of Manipur University; Sahitya Ratna Awardee M Nandakishwor Sharma Shastri; president of Thoubal District Waree Leeba Association, Nongmaithem Priyokumar; and secretary of Laishram Mani Goura Sangee Academy, Thoubal, Laishram Bijoykumar.
The experts are expected to provide detailed insights into the art, tradition and literary significance of Waree Leeba and the Mahabharata narrative during the course of the workshop.
