Imphal, September 27 2026: Paddy cultivation has been hit in Laikot, Khanhoubi and nearby fields under Lamlai Assembly Constituency, Imphal East, due to scanty rainfall.

Except for a few low-lying areas, most fields have dried up and paddy plants have started wilting.

Farmers fear total crop failure if rain does not come soon.

A farmer, Chingakham Inao from Sabungkhok, said after three years of being unable to farm due to unrest, they had hoped for some relief this year as the situation improved slightly.

But lack of water has dashed their hopes.

He said many farmers had taken loans for cultivation and would not be able to repay if the crop fails.

He appealed to the Government to inspect the fields and extend assistance.
