The Transporters and Drivers For-um Manipur (TDFM) has pledged unstinted support to the ongoing mass movement for enforcement of Inner Line Permit System in the State.
Speaking to media persons today, TDFM president Y Bhupenchandra Ghosh said that they have been mulling to suspend transport ser- vice in support of the ILPS movement.
He underscored the importance of participation of all sections of people and every civil organisation in the ongoing movement as was done during the demand for granting Statehood to Manipur and in pursuit of the demand for inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of Constitution.
There were just 105 non-local pas per the census report of 1881.But since then, the population of immigrant has been growing at an alarming rate while the population growth rate of indige- nous people is declining after every decade, Bhupenchandra said.
TDFM treasurer Kh Inaoba decried the brutality shown police during their crack down on agitating students.
They (police personnel) should understand that the ongoing movement is in the interest of all the indigenous people of Manipur including themselves, Inaoba added.
