Tech festival Cybrella 2025 kicks off

Cybrella 2025, a student-driven technical festival was opened today at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Imphal campus.
The festival's season 2 being held at Akampat under the theme "Bigger, Better and Bolder" would feature hackathon, mobile esports, circuit design competition, code debugging, competitive coding, painting competition, tech talk and short films.
IT Secretary Th Kirankumar, NIELIT Imphal Executive Director Prof Yumnam Jayanta, Babina Group of Companies Chairman & Managing Director Dr Thangjam Dhaballi, IT Director Nambam Deben and Scientist-E Dr Angom Buboo attended the opening ceremony as presidium members.
Speaking at the opening function, NIELIT Executive Director Prof Y Jayanta said that the festival was organised to instill a sense of competition among students in the field of innovative technology.
He said that NIELIT Imphal campus has currently 500/600 seats and it would be raised by some more seats.
Dr Jayanta said that there are around 120 AI practitioners in Manipur at present.
NIELIT has been working to open 25 to 30 AI labs under the AI Mission.
The institute has also set a target of creating 500 AI task force within the current year, he said.
The NIELIT Executive Director announced that PhD and MTech programmes in AI would be introduced this year.
A supercomputer would be installed at the institute shortly and it has been working to open at least two to three GPU facilities, Prof Jayanta said.
He said that NIELIT has also set a target of creating 500 task force on solar and E-vehicles.
The institute is also preparing to ink an MoU with IBM.
Additional short term courses would be introduced soon, he said.
The IT-SEZ opened in Imphal has a capacity of 11,000 units and it is the only one of its kind in the whole North East region, he said.
Later, the presidium members visited the stalls opened at Cybrella 2025 .
