Foundation stone laid for Young Talent Judo Academy at Phougakchao Ikhai

With an aim to promote Judo not only in Kumbi AC but across the entire Bishnupur district, and to groom players capable of performing at the Olympic level, the foundation stone for the Young Talent Judo Academy was laid today at Phougakchao Ikhai.
The ceremony was attended by Col Pankaj Rawat of the 19th Garhwal Rifles; OC of Phougakchao PS, Nongthombam Samson; and former Pradhan of Torbung GP .

Addressing the gathering, Academy president Khoirom Hemabati Devi shared her personal journey, recalling how she competed in various national and international Judo events and won several medals for the country.
She noted that despite her efforts, she could not reach the Olympic stage.
However, she expressed her determination to ensure that young talents from the region are trained to achieve what she could not, bringing laurels to the State and the nation.
Hemabati highlighted that construction of the Academy was initiated with government support and sought continued support from the public to strengthen and develop the institution.
In his address, Col Rawat lauded Hemabati's initiative and conveyed his best wishes for the successful establishment of the Academy.
He expressed hope that many young Judokas would emerge from the Academy and go on to bring laurels for both the State and the country.
He also assured full support to the Academy's effort.
The Young Talent Judo Academy currently trains 30 players from Phougakchao Ikhai.
