Trees reportedly felled in Waithou Protected Forest

Thoubal, September 25 2026: In an alleged violation of protected forest norms, fully grown pine trees have reportedly been felled in the Poiroutongba Village area under Waithou Protected Forest in Thoubal Forest Division.

The incident came to light when a team of Thoubal Forest Division inspected the Poiroutongba Village Compartment No P-11 area which is under Waithou Protected Forest acting on reliable inputs of alleged illegal felling and transportation of trees by some miscreants.

The inspection team was led by Beat Officer L Samananda of Mayai Keithel Beat Office and Beat Officer L Rojit of Waikhong Beat Office under the aegis of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Thoubal Forest Division Vikram Suresh Nadhe and Range Officer of Thoubal Forest Range Ahongsangbam Lanchenba Meitei.

The team found that around fully grown pine and other trees were Cut off illegally in the area.

The team of Thoubal Forest Division also seized around 89 cut off pine trees which were left in the area.

In connection with the felling of trees, the Forest Department will take up a case for further investigation.
