Awareness programme sheds light on child trafficking, child labour, POCSO and JJ Acts

District Child Protection Unit, Thoubal in collaboration with District Administration organised a one day awareness programme on Child Trafficking, Child Labour, JJ Acts and POCSO Acts today at the Counting Hall of DC office Complex Thoubal today.
Speaking at the function, Deputy Commissioner Thoubal Ahanthem Subhash Singh (IAS) said that child trafficking and child labour is a serious crime.
At present, cases of child trafficking and child labour has become a grave issue.
He appealed to the public, especially parents and guardians, to be aware and vigilant of the scourge of child trafficking.
If some agency or persons ask to send their children to other places for education or some other benefits, they should enquire about their authenticity to the concerned department, the Thoubal DC cautioned.
Maintaining that the relevant Department should take immediate action in coordination with the police in case of such incidents, the DC added that various acts like Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO Act have been introduced in order to safeguard the women and children of the country.
Resource persons gathered at the awareness programme also spoke on various topics of child trafficking, child labour and POCSO and JJ Acts.
Dr Sapam Dilipkumar, Assistant Professor Manipur University spoke on the topic "Child Trafficking and Child Labour" while Thiyam Rajkishore, Advocate, tackled the topic "POCSO Act and JJ Act".
Additional SP Thoubal, District Child Protection Officer, DLOs, police officers and others attended the programme.
