Thoubal, June 23 2024:
International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) Thoubal Branch has expressed dissatisfaction with the mode of distribution of CGI sheets to families allegedly affected by the hailstorm of May 5 in Thoubal district.
A press release issued by S Ranbir Mangang, general secretary, IPSA, Thoubal Branch, said that the May 5 hailstorm caused widespread destruction in Thoubal district where numerous homes, properties and farm houses were wrecked.
To aid the affected families, field enquiries were conducted and Ahanthem Subhash Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Thoubal reportedly instructed his staff and local body representatives to deliver the CGI sheets first to the economically underprivileged persons and widows.
However, IPSA claimed that in some places the local body representatives distributed the CGI sheets to their near and dear ones, influential wealthy individuals, businessmen and Government employees.
IPSA stated that local body representatives acting in contravention to the instruction given by Thoubal DC is quite regrettable.
It also stressed on the need to look into the ZP Member, Pradhan, Councillor and Ward Members involved in such tactics.
In view of the plight of affected families who have not yet received the CGI sheets, IPSA Thoubal Branch has announced that it will continue to conduct field inquiries and sought the public's support in their endeavour.
