'Glory of NE' delegates welcomed

As part of "Darohar: The Glory of North East" which was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop mutual relationship between students of the North East region and other parts of the country, 130 delegates who arrived at Imphal were given a rousing welcome at MFDC hall today.
Attended by Education Minister M Okendrajit Singh, Professor Dinabandhu Sahu, Director of Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) Imphal, Commissioner of Higher Education, Manipur P Vaiphei and other dignitaries, the programme showcased a variety of cultural and traditional performances.
Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, M Okendrajit Singh said the initiative will lay a foundation of understanding and respecting the diverse cultures of the country which in turn will lead to an integrated society irrespective of caste, religion and creed.
He added the State would soon establish a new university in order to increase the scope of learning for the students.
Highlighting the unique cultures of Manipur to the gathering, P Vaiphei said Manipur is a diversified State where all the communities follow their own ethnic cultures and treat each other with equal respect.
The delegates were also presented with traditional mufflers during the welcome ceremony.
