Senapati, November 22 2025:
The Naga Women's Union (NWU) has appealed the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur to make every possible effort to maintain peace and tranquillity across the State.
In a press release issued by the Information and Publicity Wing of NWU, the Union expressed concern over the November 20 incident amidst the protest by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) against the Sangai Festival.
The women's body made an appeal for the matter to be handled with restraint so that no tension is triggered.
NWU also appealed the DGP to conduct a fair review of the official duty carried out by police officer IGP Themthing Ngashangva, IPS according to professional standards during the tumultuous situation.
The senior police officer acted swiftly to maintain law and order, and deployed resources effectively with emergency services and frontline teams, said NWU.
Therefore, the demand for the IGP's suspension made to the Governor's Office is not appropriate, given that the responsibility for maintaining order and preventing escalation was the paramount priority in that situation, NWU mentioned.
While NWU also remains concerned for the IDPs still suffering due to the ongoing conflict, the body emphasized the urgent need for sustained attention, protection, and humanitarian support for all vulnerable communities.
Furthermore, it made a fervent appeal to the public to refrain from using scathing and communal language in social media platforms which can exacerbate misunderstandings and even tensions among the communities.
