5th plenary session of WMC held in Moirang

To build a sense of unity among Meiteis residing in different parts of the world, the 5th plenary session of World Meetei Council (WMC) under the theme "Hayenggidamak Malemda Leiriba Meitei Gi Apunba Phirep" was held today at Hotel Elegance, Moirang in Bishnupur district.
The event was attended by WMC, vice-president, H Boyai, WMC, Manipur Unit, president, Y Shyam, WMC, spokesperson, Nabakishore Yumnam, WMC Manipur Unit, vice-president, Kh Ra-tan and Ph Basanta, Salai Kanba Lup, chairman, L Gopal and president of Indigenous Mothers Association, Sanatampha Rk as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, WMC spokesperson Nabakishore Yumnam said that the population of Meitei including Meiteis of Assam, Tripura, Bangladesh and Myanmar is around 18 lakhs.
Out of these, 14 lakhs reside in Manipur.
But unfortunately, since the eruption of violence in the State on May 3, 2023, Meiteis have been left in despair.
He continued that such a session was called to take a stance together to protect and safeguard the future.
He also urged the Meiteis residing in other parts of the world to unite and share their views to safeguard their future.
Later, a two minute silence was also observed to honour those who have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.
