Thoubal, November 21 2024:
The Nongpok Sayang Apunba Lup (NSAL) has resolved to temporarily abstain from any form of public agitation while reasoning that there is a clear indication of people prioritizing the protection of their political leaders while setting aside the burning issues of the State.
With this, it has also lifted all restrictions placed on Government offices in the jurisdiction of the Lup.
NSAL is an apex body of 18 local bodies from Changdrakhong to Thoubal Kshetrileikai.
During a press briefing held at Yairipok today, Ananda Laishram, NSAL president, claimed that the movement has turned political in nature and people's focus has been diverted to saving the political leaders of their respective constituencies.
He alleged that in many places individuals who did not participate in any public movements are now staying overnight at the residence of their political leaders in a bid to "protect the MLAs".
As a result, public demonstrations such as sit-in protests in connection with the ongoing movement will be suspended temporarily in areas under the jurisdiction of NSAL, declared the Lup president.
Those found violating this directive should be held accountable for any unfortunate consequences that may follow, he said.
Due to differences in opinion, NSAL will also not be working in association with any of the big State CSOs.
Instead, all agitations carried out in connection with the conflict will proceed as per the bidding of NSAL, added Ananda Laishram.
However, NSAL will support any steps taken by the State Government or organisations which are aimed towards resolving the crisis and bringing public welfare.
