Imphal, February 20 2025:
The Manipur Meitei-Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has stated that the political turmoil besetting Manipur and the subsequent imposition of President's Rule (Suspended Animation) in Manipur have made the people even more anxious.
In a release, MMWO raised questions over the Central Government's handling of the prolonged conflict which has been going on for nearly two years.
The organisation also expressed concern over the worsening situation in the State and the possibility of the Central Government imposing President's Rule, similar to its approach in Jammu & Kashmir.
The organisation stated that the delay in choosing a new Chief Minister following the resignation of former CM N Biren Singh and the in-action against those openly threatening the territorial integrity of Manipur have fueled speculation about the Central Government's intentions.
"Concerns have emerged that the prolonged unrest could result in administrative restructuring similar to what was seen in Jammu & Kashmir, potentially affecting Manipur's territorial integrity", it added.
Questioning whether the BJP and its allies are strategically maintaining the current state of affairs for political advantage, the MMWO asked, "How long are the MLAs going to fight for the Chief Minister's chair and keep waiting for direction from the Central Government?" .
The MMWO further appealed to all the legislators to forgo their personal interest and elect a competent leader of the Government who will work to protect the people & restore peace in Manipur.
