Ukhrul, May 19 2010: All the frontal organisations of the Tangkhul community in Ukhrul district have resolved today to take drastic actions against those candidates who had defied the directives of the Naga apex body, UNC, in Manipur by joining the ensuing District Council elections process of Manipur.

The Tangkhul organisations including the community's apex body, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) or Tangkhul Students' Union and many others have resolved that Tangkhuls who are in the fray in the ensuing District Council elections will be driven out from their respective villages and will not be allowed to reside in Naga areas.

The properties of these candidates will also be dismantled by the Tangkhul organisations.

Other resolutions of the Tangkhul frontal organisations include disassociating such elements from the Tangkhul community and not to allow to hold community posts and also be barred from taking any public platforms.

"Their properties, including dwelling houses will be dismantled and any Tangkhul, Naga or non-Tangkhul who works in collusion with them shall be at their own risk," said the resolutions of the Tangkhul organisations.

It is worth noting that the Nagas in Manipur under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC) had rejected the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act of 2008 saying that the present Act does not give 'real' autonomy, though the Constitution of India in its clause related to this Act has granted autonomy to all the District Councils, for which it is rightly known as Autonomous District Councils (ADCs).

The Naga frontal organisations have been demanding that the Act be amended first then to hold the elections.

However, the State Government had gone ahead with the election process with the first phase of the polls scheduled to be held on May 26 while the second phase will be held on June 2 .

The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has been imposing blockade on the two National Highways since April 11 against the holding of elections to the District Councils under the present status.
