Imphal, February 18 2016:
Strongly condemning Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang's Lui-Ngai-Ni speech in Ukhrul, United People's Front (UPF) has questioned why he is so vocal against the three ILP Bills passed by the State Assembly to safeguard the indigenous communities although he was silent when people of Mao community were beaten up in Kohima town last year.
In a statement, UPF said that in his speech, TR Zeliang pretended to have lots of affection for the tribals of Manipur.
However, he was silent when shops of Mao community of Manipur were vandalised and were beaten up at Kohima last year.
UPF also questioned TR Zeliang why he remained silent when Mao people were evicted from Nagaland villages and their entry into the neighbouring State to sell their wares prevented.
When Mao people were not allowed to enter Nagaland, many of them came to Imphal to sell vegetables and other wares, UPF said.
It further said that Manipur Government and its people had never interfered in the matter of neighbouring States but helped them resolve many issues.
It was so unbecoming on the part of TR Zeliang to spew venom among the people of Manipur who have been residing together since the past 2000 years.
UPF said that Manipur Government must initiate legal action against the Nagaland Chief Minister for trying to break the integrity of the State.
It also urged the people of different communities of the State to remain united and face all such challenges collectively.
UPF further said that they would take active part in all people's agitations.
