With the respondents failing to file their affidavit-in-opposition to the notice of motion issued on November 24, a division of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench comprising of Justices T Nandakumar and K Meruno has the directed the Director General of Police, Manipur or his nominee not below the rank of Inspector General of Police to enquire into the facts and circumstances leading to injuries upon villagers of Umathel and its adjoining areas within one month.
The Court also directed that authority of 21 Assam Rifles should cooperate with the enquiry, conveyed a press release issued by Human Rights Law Network (HRLN).
The notice of motion of November 14 was issued acting on a PIL jointly filed by Human Rights Alert (HRA), Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS) and the Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE), it recalled.
