Imphal, October 16:
Disclosing that the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) has definite information of some groups of Tamenglong district headquarters with vested interest exerting pressure on the State Government to shift the DIET centre at Tamei to Tamenglong Hqs and of the State Government initiating process to shift the centre, LNC has cautioned the State Government against shifting the centre.
A memorandum has also been submitted to the Chief Minister today to this end.
Speaking to reporters today, president of LNC Ajinbou Abonmai asserted that the attempt to shift the centre to Tamenglong district Hqs on the ground that most of the lecturers and trainees of the Tamei DIET centre belong to Tamenglong Hqs while the there is no hostel for the centre to accommodate the trainees and lecturers, was not in the interest of the common people of the district.
Asking as to how could valley dwellers want to go to hill locations when the hill people themselves who have grown up in the hills don't feel like going to their places of postings in hill districts away from the district hqs, Ajinbou noted that the new initiative to shift the DIET centre would be a big blunder.
Rather, he appealed to the State Government to provide necessary infrastructure to the DIET centre, Tamei including hostel facilities.
The centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister O Ibobi some time back.
The LNC president further warned that any move to shift the centre to Tamenglong district Hqs would be objected with all its strength in association with the people.
Copies of the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister were also submitted to the Chief Secretary, SCERT Commissioner and other concerned officials.
