Imphal, September 14 2026:
Denouncing arrests of village volunteers, Manipur People's Party spokesperson, Dr Seram Rojesh, has urged the State and Central Governments to scrap the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, signed with Kuki insurgent organisations.
Speaking to reporters at the party's office near Polo Ground, Dr Rojesh said even after the ground rules of the agreement have been violated by the cadres of the armed groups, the SoO agreement has not been scrapped by the Central Government.
Many SoO cadres have been arrested with arms outside their designated camps, and their involvement in the ongoing conflict is out in the open.
Yet, the Government choosing not to see such violations of the ground rules is very unfortunate, he said.
Even as the Government has failed to take action against the SoO groups, security forces have cracked-down on village volunteers, who were forced to defend their villages against militants' attacks, Dr Rojesh said.
Instead of arresting village volunteers, the Government should honour them for defending villages and innocent lives, he said.
If MPP is given the mandate to form Government, everything the public wants will be met, he added.
