Patriotic fervour marks 80th Independence Day in Imphal with Tiranga Rallies and 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaigns

Imphal, August 14 2026: The 80th Independence Day of India was observed across Imphal on Friday with large-scale Tiranga Rallies and 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaigns, drawing thousands of students, youth and citizens in a show of patriotism and national unity.

ABVP leads mega student rally

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Imphal Mahanagar organised a grand Tiranga Rally at three locations in Imphal with the participation of approximately 3,�78 students and youth.

Carrying the Tricolour and raising patriotic slogans, participants highlighted the values of freedom, unity, national integrity and civic responsibility.

ABVP Imphal Mahanagar said the rally was aimed at inspiring the younger generation to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and to reaffirm the commitment of "Nation First".

The organisation reaffirmed its resolve to continue initiatives that encourage youth participation in nation-building.

Minister Kh Loken flags off 'Har Ghar Tiranga' in Wangoi

Art & Culture and Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken flagged off a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign in Wangoi Assembly Constituency.

Starting from the Minister's residence at Yumnam Huidrom, the rally saw Minister Loken, his family and a large number of supporters and BJP workers march with the Tricolour.

Speaking on the occasion, Kh Loken said the campaign, under the Ministry of Culture, marks 80 years of India's Independence.

He added that this year's campaign is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the national song 'Vande Mataram'.

"The Tricolour in every home reflects our emotional bond with the nation and strengthens our collective commitment to nationbuilding.

As citizens, we must take pride in being part of a strong and united India", he said.

N Biren leads rally in Heingang

BJP Heingang Mandal also organised a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' rally led by former Chief Minister and Heingang AC MLA Nongthombam Biren Singh from his residence at Luwangsangbam.

Addressing participants, N Biren said the campaign is being held across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He noted that the Tricolour has been hoisted in many homes in Heingang.

"The Tiranga represents the unity of India.

This rally aims to build a strong and united India under one flag", the former CM said.

The rally was attended by N Biren's family, BJP Imphal District president, BJP Heingang Mandal office bearers, polling agents and students from different areas of the constituency.

BJP Khurai Mandal holds rally

BJP Khurai Mandal also organised a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Rally from the residence of Khurai AC MLA L Susindro in Khurai Sajor Leikai to Popular High School Ground.

Addressing the gathering, Susindro said he remains with BJP for now but will reconsider if the Government fails to address public issues and deliver people-centric governance.

He stressed that elections should be contested in the spirit of service, not business.

Susindro also highlighted drinking water and drainage as key needs in Khurai AC.

ARPS joins celebrations

Assam Rifles Public School, Mantripukhri also celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit.

The programme began with a Prabhat Pheri from the school campus to Col Viplav Tripathi Training Shed, IGAR (South) and back.

Principal Dr Alka Jain, escorted by NCC cadets, unfurled the National Flag.

This was followed by patriotic songs, dances, an Independence Day quiz, board decoration, face painting, rangoli and a 'Selfie' competition under the theme "Har Ghar Tiranga".

The day's events reflected a collective spirit of patriotism, with youth organisations, political leaders and educational institutions urging citizens to hoist the Tricolour and uphold the ideals of a united and progressive India.
