Bishnupur moves to strengthen district statistical system

In a move aimed at strengthening evidence-based governance and improving the district statistical system, the District Statistical Office.
Bishnupur.
convened a meeting at the Conference Hall of the District Administration on Tuesday.
According to a release issued by the PRO of the District Statistical Office, the meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam and attended by ADC/ADM Toijam Opendro, Sub-Divisional Officers, Sub-Deputy Collectors, district-level officers, District Statistical Officer Khuraijam Shitle Kumar, and officials of the District Statistical Office.
Welcoming the participants, Khuraijam Shitle Kumar delivered a detailed presentation on the importance of official statistics in governance.
The presentation covered key subjects including "The Imperative of Data in Governance", "Statistics as the Foundation of Good Governance", "Crop Estimation Survey", "Land Utilisation Survey", "Crop Cutting Experiments", "Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data", and the various survey programmes undertaken by the District Statistical Office despite its limited manpower.
The presentation also highlighted the office's challenges, operational constraints, and the support required from the District Administration to further strengthen the district statistical system.
The District Statistical Officer proposed the formation of a District Level Statistical Coordination Committee (DLSCC) to improve coordination among line departments and ensure timely dissemination of reliable official statistics.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam appreciated the efforts of the District Statistical Office in generating reHable statistical data despite resource constraints.
She emphasised the importance of quality data for informed decision-making, effective policy formulation and sustainable development, and assured full support from the district administration.
The meeting also discussed challenges in data collection and stressed the need for stronger inter-departmental coordination.
It was resolved that each line department would nominate a nodal officer to facilitate data sharing and statistical coordination.
Among the key initiatives discussed were establishing clear data access mechanisms, conducting data discovery and gap analysis, establishing a districtlevel data bank, eliminating duplication in data collection, improving data harmonisation, strengthening coordination with local and urban authorities, enhancing digital data integration, and promoting statistical literacy.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to building a robust and integrated statistical ecosystem to support the planning and developmental goals of Bishnupur district.
