DC Thoubal launches 'Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0'

The Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 for Thoubal district was officially launched today by Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, Hannah Kahmei at the Conference Hall of the DC office Thoubal.
Launching the campaign, DC Hannah Kahmei stated that various awareness activities such as marathons and rallies will be organised to engage young people and spread the message of a tobacco-free lifestyle.
She urged departments including Education, Municipal Councils, and other related agencies to coordinate effectively to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign.
Prior to launch, a DLCC meeting under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was held at the same venue.
The meeting was chaired by the DC and attended by the SDOs of Thoubal and Lilong, Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), EOs of various Municipal Councils, and other DLCC members.
During the meeting, Dr N Bikramjit, District Nodal Officer (NTCP), presented a detailed overview of the campaign's strategies, focusing on public awareness drives about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, ensuring compliance with Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) guidelines, and promoting Tobacco Free villages.
He also highlighted the need for strict enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA) and the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019 (PECA).
Dr Vikram further outlined penalties for violations and identified district-level officials authorized to enforce these laws.
