Imphal, June 13 2025:
The Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has urged the state government to take immediate steps to address the prolonged suffering of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Moreh, who fled their homes following the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023.In a statement issued Friday, the council said a delegation met the home commissioner to raise concerns over what it called the government's continued inaction and neglect.
It said that displaced families have now endured two years of severe hardship without access to dignified livelihood opportunities, education, or adequate healthcare.
The council said the initial Rs 25,000 instalment of the promised Rs 1 lakh aid per family has not reached many IDPs, and monthly financial support is irregular and insufficient.
The absence of a clear health policy for IDPs has left many without access to treatment, leading to deaths from preventable illnesses and worsening chronic conditions.
Overcrowded relief camps, lack of privacy, and little mental health support have taken a heavy toll on students and youth.
Seven persons from Moreh remain missing.
MCM stressed that the state must provide housing, healthcare, and education for IDPs until their safe return is possible.
It called for immediate regular supply of food, full educational sponsorship, free medical care, and full disbursement of the promised compensation.
