Locals of Kakching protest against outrageous monetary demands

Kakching, July 12 2024: Denouncing the outrageous monetary demands imposed on shopkeepers, business outlets and many residents of Kakching by some outfits, a sit-in protest was staged yesterday by the locals at Naohallai Lampak, Kakching Bazar yesterday.

The sit-in protest was organised by All Kakching Clubs Coordinating Committee (AKCCC), an apex body of 19 local clubs of Kakching in association with Senior citizens Forum Kakching, Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup, Kakching Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup, Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association and other local bodies.

The protestors used placards which read, 'Stop imposing unbearable demands', 'Civilians also contribute in safeguarding their lands and people', 'Lets promote harmony and peaceful co-existence amongst us', etc.

Speaking in connection with the protest, AKCCC secretary Maniyaima said that every household of Kakching have been extending all possible help to the displaced victims taking shelter at various relief camps in Kakching district ever since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May last year.

In addition to the above, the local clubs and organizations in Kakching have been providing support to conflict affected areas of Serou, Sugnu, Pallel and other places in the State till date and will continue to do so, he said.

He expressed discontentment over the outrageous monetary demands raised by some outfits upon the people of Kakching amid these challenging times and appealed to all concerned to refrain from making these demands.

Maniyaima maintained that the residents will provide help whenever required but they should not be forced to do so.

AKCCC president Ksh Dharmadas also stated that the unarmed civilians also contribute equally in fighting against the atrocities of the Kukis.

He highlighted the need of making collective efforts by individuals and organizations in the State to overcome this challenging phase of the crisis rather than working against one another creating an atmosphere of animosity.
