Imphal, July 12 2012:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh demanding that the ongoing Assembly session adopt a resolution to implement Inner Line Permit System in Manipur failing which intense agitation would be launched in association with the joint Committee on ILP and other civil society organisations.
speaking to newspersons at Keishampat Junction community hall, where a sit-in-demonstration on the said issue was organised by the Committee today, UCM president Y Nabachandra insisted that all 60 MLAs of the State Assembly should ensure that the ILP system is reintroduced in Manipur.
Conveying that today's agitation was in support of the Joint Committee's call for sustaining the movement, he also reminded that UCM had launched similar agitation in 2005 along with highlighting demographic census report to the Government.

Strongly condemning Government of Manipur's indifferent attitude to the issue which concerns the entire indigenous population, Nabachandra also took serious note of ILP campaigner K Birahari Sharma put in chains and detained even though his (Birahari) campaign is a democratic movement.
Regretting that ill-treatment to Birahari amounts to violating and abusing human dignity, he also reiterated that all the elected representatives of the people would be held responsible if an effective decision to implement ILP system in Manipur cannot be adopted at the ongoing assembly session.
Conveying that the current campaign on ILP also has the backing and goodwill of the hill people, Nabachandra wondered what is compelling the State Government from taking a firm stand on the issue.
Meanwhile, business community of Paona Bazar joined the ILP demand by staging sit-in-protest at the Usha Cinema Hall premises.
Similarly, dharna was also staged at Singjamei Thongam Leikai.
