Tamenglong, May 12 2026:
Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Tamenglong district have served a five-day final ultimatum to the transport contractor responsible for the delivery ofNational Food Security Act (NFSA) foodgrains for Tamei, Nungba and Tamenglong constituencies, warning of stringent economic blockade measures along National Highway-37 if the allocation is not delivered within the stipulated period.
The CSOs, comprising Inpui Naga Union, Liangmai Naga Council Manipur (Tamenglong Zone), Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (Tamenglong Zone), Zeme Naga Council Manipur, Joint Tribes Women Association (Tamenglong Zone), Chairman and Secretary Association Tamenglong, and Village Authority Chairmen Councils, announced the decision in a joint statement issued today.
According to the statement issued by the Information and Publicity wing of the CSOs, transport contractor Soraisam Gobin of SY Enterprises has allegedly failed to deliver the May 2026 NFSA foodgrain allocation meant for beneficiaries of the three constituencies despite an earlier notice served by the organisations.
Clarifying that the contractor is responsible only for transportation and not supply, the CSOs stated that the role nevertheless remains contractually binding and critically important for ensuring timely distribution of foodgrains to beneficiaries.
The organisations alleged that the delay in transportation has caused severe hardship to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Household (PHH) cardholders across the district.
The CSOs have demanded complete and verifiable delivery of the full May 2026 NFSA allocation to all designated distribution points on or before May 16.Warning of intensified agitation, the organisations stated that failure to comply with the ultimatum by the beginning of May 17 would compel them to initiate "strict economic severance measures" along NH-37.The proposed measures include a peaceful and sustained shutdown of the highway for all goods carriers, during which no commercial supplies, including essential commodities, fuel or construction materials, would be allowed to pass until the foodgrain deliveries are completed.
The CSOs further stated that any disruption of public order, economic losses or untoward incidents arising out of the continued delay in transportation would be the responsibility of Soraisam Gobin and SY Enterprises.
Meanwhile, the organisations urged the concerned authorities to intervene immediately and ensure that the contractor fulfils his responsibilities within the stipulated tirfteframe.
They also maintained that the proposed agitation could be withdrawn if visible progress in delivery is made during the five-day window.
