Imphal, February 11 2009: Asserting that finding flaws in the works of the NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS and hunting for the defects within the NGOs without the consent of the authority concerns and highlighting it to the public via media will not bring in quality service to HIV/AIDS related works in Manipur, the All Manipur NGOs Partners' Consortium on HIV/AIDS (AMNPC) has highlighted some of the feats that have been achieved by the NGOs which have worked in close tandem with the Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) and various experts in the field of HIV/AIDS to the general public.

In a press release, the AMNPC vice-president, Dhyanchand said that the NGOs which have worked in partnership with expert individuals and MACS in HIV/AIDS related field have so far managed to reduce the prevalence of HIV rate among IDUs to 19 percent from the then prevailing rate of 77 percent in 1998 .

Stating that the NGOs have been providing nutrition/vitamins to more than 1800 HIV positive people on monthly basis, it claims that the number of dead victims of HIV positive people has been shrinking to a large extent since the past two years.

It said that the NGOs have conducted free blood investigation to over 1200 HIV positive people.

It has also helped in providing financial assistance to more than 200 drug users who want to stop using drugs for their de-addiction treatment at various Drug De-addiction Centres.

Taking larger responsibility, the statement maintained that the NGOs have been able to provide employment to over 500 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) in various projects of their respective organisations.

It stated that it has also enabled to include women and children under various programmes in the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) � III.

It affirmed that the said achievements have been attained by the NGOs by burrowing money for interest even when they didn't get monetary sanction for 5-6 months while adding that this is being done only in the interest of the People Living with HIV/AIDS.

It further suggested that the works of NGOs would usher in quality service if the government and voluntary organisations acknowledged the hardships being faced by the NGOs and lead them in the right path.

The NGOs will extend no cooperation to organisations which attempt to carry out social audit/situational analysis with malice intent while adding that doors will be wide opened to those who come for constructive purpose, the statement guaranteed.
