Villagers not provided jobs for a single day under MGNREGS

Imphal, January 11 2011:
Job card holders of Yambem Gram Panchayat Ward No 8 under Andro assembly constituency were not provided a single day's job by the concerned authorities under MGNREGS in 2010 although it is mandatory to provide jobs for 100 days to card holders.
The matter came to light when media persons met with villagers today.
According to Abdul Rashid, Imtiaz and Abdul Wahid, they were provided 30 days job in 2009 though they were provided wages for only 23 days.
They have not been provided jobs even for a single day in 2010 .
When they asked to provide jobs, authorities denied them saying that there was no work for them.
However, the authority used machines to repair a road included in the scheme.
There are 89 job card holders in the village.
They have collected ' 50 each from the job card holders along with photos for opening accounts in the post office.
But they have not provided pass books to the villagers.
Angered villagers are now planning to lodge a complaint to the ombudsman of Imphal East district against Pradhan Radhamohon and member of the ward Ali Hassan.
