District level advocacy / training programme conducted

A district level advocacy cum training programme was held today at the Table Tennis Indoor Stadium, Thoubal Wangmataba organised by the Thoubal Forest Division under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt of India.
The advocacy cum training programme was conducted under the scheme Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana Promoting Tribal Enterprise Through Value Addition, Branding and Marketing of Forest Produces.
AC to DC Thoubal Arbin Hanglem; Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Thoubal Dr L Jeeceelee MFS and Deb Foods proprietor Keithellakpam Rasheshwori Devi graced as the presidium members of the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Arbin Hanglem highlighted the importance of promoting food processing units and imparting skill development training among the masses for processing of forest produce to generate income out of it.
Stating that Manipur has valuable natural resources in abundance, he maintained that one should make the best use of these resources by availing the benefits provided by various Government schemes meant for the purpose.
If these schemes are implemented effectively, the State will progress in terms of organic farming thereby contributing in economic development, he said.
Later in the afternoon session of the training programme, Keithellakpam Rasheshwori Devi and Ak Spice Industry proprietor Salam Ashokumar spoke on the topic 'Food processing and packaging' as resource persons.
The trainees were imparted valuable knowledge on value addition on NTFPs (Non Timber Forest Product), candy making, pickle making, food processing and so on.
